Hello, 2022!

And goodbye to all that

I had been planning to compile a retrospective, but can’t bring myself to revisit the past year. 2021 has left the building and I have changed the locks.

So what’s in store for 2022?

Writing, mostly. With travel curtailed — state borders are open, but I can’t afford to go far this year! — I’ll be sitting in front of the computer, focusing on words. (Also Wordle. Completely hooked.) But the first few days of 2022 will be devoted to a couple of projects with precipitous deadlines. True, the deadlines weren’t precipitous when I took them on, but…well…that was in 2021 when time ran in all directions.

Last year, I wrote almost 90 articles for Medium. This year, I’ll try to crack the ton. Also I’m determined to submit more of my writing to publishers. I had some success late in the year, so perhaps there will be more in 2022. The strategy of aiming for 100 rejections does not fill me with joy, but it is the way forward. The path is paved with ‘thank you, but not for us’.

And the biggest thing, by far, is finding a new place to rent. I’ll need all the luck for that one.

So onwards into the thicket of 2022. The key to walking a forest track is to watch where you put your feet and to know when to duck.

Happy New Year, everyone!
