Winter: Crane Season
Harvest time brings in the birds

The rain has stopped and the sky is a cloudless, eye-burning blue. The dry season has arrived.
Around Atherton, harvesters are cutting maize. Skeins of Black Kites follow them, gliding above the dust. The birds circle and swoop, going around again, watching for lizards and grasshoppers stirred up by the machinery.
